Welcome,

"What's this place all about?" In a nutshell it's about doing your own self supported Ironman distance triathlon.

"So what do I get from this?" First, let's say what you don't get. You're not going to get a finishers medal or even a t-shirt. Your not going to hear thousands of people cheer you on when you tired, soaked in sweat, sore & miserable.

What you do get is the intense gratifying experience of setting out to complete the ultimate human endurance sporting event. You'll wake up the next day knowing that you swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 & ran 26.2 all within 17 hours.....all on your own! Then you go about bragging for the rest of your life.

"Ironman has always been about finishing what you started. About being able to do what you set out to do. Maybe not as fast as the person in front of you. But certainly faster then the person that never started." - John Collins.

This network is a place to come together in a forum, where you can get advice, share advice, share experiences, share pictures, audio, videos & talk a little smack if you feel like it. In the end all geared towards the mutual goal of finishing what you started.

Tyler & Brett

HISTORY

140dot6 evolved from two tri-geeks friendship. That would be Tyler & Brett. Inspired by Brett's podcast of his own self-supported Ironman, "Ironbaby", This site was concieved during training towards our first Mdot race in Wisconsin. "Ironbaby" is a must listen to podcast that will change your mind about doing a self supported "Ironman".

The basic "mission statement" if you will, of 140dot6, is this. That you don't have to complete an IM with 3000 other triathletes to make it valid or meaningful. That finishing this ultimate endurance event on your own can be very fullfilling. MDot's are now selling out within minutes each year. Don't let not getting into the Mdot of your choice stop you from completing your goal of going the distance.

Just a few upsides of a self supported 140dot6;

1. MONEY - No entrance fees, no airline tickets to buy, no hotels to reserve, no rental car, no bike box needed, no restaurants & no eating out.

2. SCHEDULE - The MDot race you might want to do is only scheduled once a year. Your 140dot6 is scheduled when you want. If you get sick, work duty calls, family priorities, unexpected illness or injury. No big deal - reschedule it.

3. TRAVEL - Walk out your front door, drive to the local swimming pool or local beach. Alot less hassle then getting to another state for the big day.

4. COOL FACTOR - Along with holding your head high and enjoying the fact you completed 140dot6 miles of swimming, biking & running - Now you get to say you put this on and supported it yourself. Will make for some great story telling.

IS THIS IRONMAN ?!

That is entirely up to the individual. That question has as many answers as there are triathletes. Some would say no, some would say yes. A few believe the only true Ironman is a triathlete that does Kona. Yet, I know many triathletes that have done Arizona, Lake Placid & Wisconsin, that without hesitation call themselves an Ironman. So if you embark on a self supported 140.6, it's really a non-issue with us. Call yourself whatever you feel like calling yourself. I prefer "badass" myself. It's not up to someone else to define you after doing something like this.
